The Ballyhouras is an area that is synonymous with outdoor recreation. Sitting on the bounds between the counties of Limerick and Cork, this area of gentle uplands offers spectacular vistas of the surrounding farmland, old historic estates such as Castleoliver and unique views of towns such as Killmallock. Views of the neighbouring mountain range of the Galtys and down into the Glen of Aherlow are common, whilst on a good day, the Knockmealdows may be visible from the higher points.
There are a variety of different walks available throughout Ballyhoura Country including; mountain walks, riverbank walks woodland walks, bogland walks, long distance trails, mythological walks and historical walks. Guided walks are also available with our local Walking Club “The Ballyhoura Bears”.
The largest trail network of it’s kind in Ireland. 98 km of trails including forest road climbs, tight twisty singletrack with loads of ups and downs, board walk, tight turns and technical rocky bits are gauranteed to leave you smiling.
The trails range from the moderate 6 km Greenwood loop to the demanding Castlepook loop, over 50 km in length! Facilities at the trail head include map boards, car parking, toilets, showers and bike wash facilities.
Ireland has a long tradition in horse racing and breeding. There are several equestrian centres in the area to visit that offer a great horse riding experience in County Limerick.

Limerick Racecourse; Patrickswell. Stages both National Hunt and Flat racing. It is a state of the art venue providing ample car parking, catering and bar facilities for race days.
There are a number of highly regarded golf courses within close proximity of Kilmallock. The closest is Charleville Golf Club (5miles) followed by Limerick County Golf & Country Club Ballyneety (14 miles) and Mitchelstown Golf Club (19 miles)
